What's
happening at District 15, General Service
in February?
- Our District Meeting is
February 14th, at 7th & K in Eureka. 2-4 P.M. The
Area Officer visiting this month will be our Assembly
Coordinator. She should be particularly helpful in us getting
ready to host the Summer Assembly this August.
- Our local web site
hosted by your General Service Committee, District 15 Humboldt/Del
Norte is aahumboldtdelnorte.org. Check it out! It is updated
frequently to carry all activities in both counties. We have

assembly for ALL members of A.A. in the Pacific Region to meet and
discuss their experience and hopes in A.A. Since it is so
close this year (last year it was in Alaska) we hope all of
you will attend. We need volunteers to help with
registration, meetings, and lots of other things the Area Coordinator
can tell you about. Visit PRAASA 09 on the web.
- The Pre-Conference
Assembly is coming up quickly. We will be discussing plans
for obtaining your group consciences and seeing to it that all GSRs can
get there.
I look forward to
working with you.

Final Responsibility
February 2009
"I am Responsible. When anyone,
anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be
there. And for that: I am responsible."
When my sponsor, replacing I with You,
told me this 26 years ago I had no idea that he was passing on to me a
lifetime commitment to service in A.A. It took me 20 more
years to learn that "giving back" was not only sponsoring newcomers; it
was making sure that the Concepts for World Service kept the doors open
for my grandchildren and theirs.
In meetings I continually hear about the
"we" in A.A. Since the Responsibility Statement is
only recited in some business meetings, I rarely hear the "I" in what
must be done. This panel, Panel 59, I saw it in
action. I was not elected DCMC. In the 3rd round of
the 7th legacy (A.A's voting procedure) I searched my heart and
acknowledged that "I was available".
I was terrified of my ability to commit
to 2 years and many hours of general service. I was aware
that no one was clamoring for me to "lead". There was no
glory in what I was doing; there was just no one else. I
gradually became aware that all of our District 15 officers came in in
exactly the same way.
I am so gratified and excited to be
working with a panel of individuals who care so deeply about the future
of A.A. We are all risking the destruction of our egos to
learn to serve you in the most responsible manner.
I invite you, nay, beseech you, to join
us as we learn together to keep A.A. strong, viable, and
current. We still need an Alternate DCMC, DCM's from Del
Norte & Southern Humboldt, and GSR's from all of your
groups. Ask your group if you can represent them.
Join us as we again this year explore the Twelve Concepts of General
Service.
Concepts 1): "Final
responsibility and ultimate authority for A.A. world services should
always reside in the collective conscience of our whole
fellowship." And 2): "The General Service Conference of A.A.
has become, for nearly every practical purpose, the active voice and
the effective conscience of our whole Society in its world affairs."
This collective Conscience is not a power vote. It is the
determination to see that every voice in A.A. is heard and decisions
are made only with the agreement of the whole, not the egos of a few.
The enlightened and responsible thinking
and participation of every group is our way of assuring that A.A.
remains vital and does not deteriorate into a dictatorship.
To participate in the now and the future
of District 15 General Service, just come to the District meeting at
7th and K at 2 P.M. on Sat, Feb 14th or any future month on the second
Saturday.
